WHO WE ARE

About Lumira Sustainable Energy

Lumira Sustainable Energy (Lumira SE) exists to ignite Africa’s sustainable energy future. We unlock green value chains through innovation and collaboration, powering domestic and global green fuel markets while championing a just and climate-resilient energy transition.

A joint venture between Kay Ann Sustainable Energy Pty Ltd (Reg: 2025/409265/07), Ushauri Africa Pty Ltd, and African Biofuels, Lumira SE unites purpose-driven partners committed to meaningful change. Kay Ann Sustainable Energy — a woman-led, black-owned South African company — brings a bold vision for ethical, transformative energy development across the region.

Our flagship initiative, the Eastern Cape Sustainable Bio-feedstock Production Hub (EC SBF), is creating South Africa’s first integrated, certified, non-food biofeedstock value chain. Through this pioneering project, we aim to empower communities, grow new green markets, and help shape a cleaner, more inclusive energy future.

Our Brand Story

Lumira Sustainable Energy’s founding vision is to be a bold force for transformation.
The name of the company is derived from Lumen — the Latin word for light — “Lumira” embodies more than just power. It symbolises enlightenment, leadership, and a beacon of progress.
Our company brand story is anchored in a catalytic vision grounded in action — lighting the path forward not just with technology, but with partnerships founded on trust, equity, and integrity.
We have uniquely positioned ourselves to work with rural farmers, policymakers, investors, and global partners to produce sustainable energy products whilst also delivering social and economic dividends for stakeholders across the value chains we develop or work across.
